Stunning rare original lithograph by the renown Czech born artist, probably originally a book illustration. It has obviously been cut from a larger sheet of paper as some of the embossed framing has been cut away. Finished in sepia colour, it is the image of a maiden picking apples and storing them in her gown with his trademark whiplash design around her. Mucha signature is signed in the block to the lower corner. Condition is very good with very minor damage (please email me for more pictures). Approx. size 15 inches (38cm) x 8 inches (20cm).
Alphonse Mucha born in Prague, Czechoslovakia 1860 died 1939. He trained as a set painter in Vienna and then studied at the Munich Academy. In 1887 he came to Paris in search of work as a book illustrator . He exploded onto the scene when he designed a poster for the plays of the day featuring Sarah Bernhardt. Muchas Style was so popular that Art Nouveau was often referred to as 'Le Style Mucha' in France. Alas much of his original work has long been destroyed making this print a rare find.

French lithograph entitled 'Invocation a la madone' from L'Estampe Moderne no20, December 1898. Signed in plate to lower right hand corner Marcel Lenoir with blind stamp (embossed) of a woman's head.
